The challenge for accessing vehicles that don’t have flat surfaces on the top—tankers, for example—is being able to stand in the area you need to work on without slipping or sliding off altogether. This system was originally designed for a client who operated a fleet of tanker trucks – they needed to work on hatches and connection points with fall protection during maintenance.

Standard rails or even tall scaffolding was still dangerous, as it left a gap between the top of the tank’s curve and the lower side of the tank. SafeSmart designed and manufactured this platform with telescopic handrails that easily jut out over the obstacle, creating full-surround edge protection for those who step onto the tanker surface.
